Training centres in Ennepetal, Gevelsberg, Schwelm and Sprockhövel are honoured.

Vice President Rolf Bilstein praises the dual training system

Schwelm. (ST) Despite the poor employment situation throughout Germany and the general unease with the economic climate, the SIHK (Südwestfälische Industrie- und Handelskammer zu Hagen) can be proud of a 2.6% increase in apprenticeships and has now honoured the 262 training enterprises in Ennepetal, Gevelsberg, Schwelm und Sprockhövel at the Rosine Hotel in Ennepetal.

LINK -> Südwestfälische Industrie- und Handelskammer"Well before the start of the new training year, we want to draw attention to the fact that something is being done in trade and industry to create new jobs", explains Dr. Jens Ferber, who is responsible for marketing and general meetings at the SIHK. ...

Andreas Lux, training manager, welcomed the 140 or more representatives from the training companies, before the Vice President of the SIHK, Rolf Bilstein, took to the floor and spoke about the employers' situation in general with regard to training. On the one hand, he praised the dual training system where training is carried out in two places, for example, at vocational training schools and in companies. "This is a very practical approach". However, there were certain aspects that frustrated him, even in his own company febi, where currently eight percent of the workforce has apprentice status. He made several digs at the unions and "superminister" Clement before presenting a 10-point plan to those present. Firstly, the 3 months probationary period was too short, six would be provide a much better opportunity for getting to know the trainee. "In addition to this, the extremely limited possibilities for terminating employment must be relaxed." He complained, in particular, about the candidates' inadequate level of education and of frequent deficiencies in parental upbringing. "Punctuality and reliability are necessities for everyday working life." But not only that, he also referred to a lack of flexibility with regard to career aspirations. Furthermore, training costs in excess of 90,000 euros were clearly too high for the employer and there was also an obligation to take on trainees. In addition to this, there must be legal adherence to contractual fidelity as the signing of several training contracts is permitted and, for this reason, apprenticeships often remain vacant. "Whoever signs the contract, must also honour it!" As a final point, he complained about the shortening of working hours for apprentices, who should in fact be working longer hours, as half of the training time was spent at the training school anyway.

The event was rounded off by a panel discussion with participation from representatives from the towns and two companies. ... Thomas Erdelt from Vollmann GmbH and Hans Jürgen from ABC reported from within the companies ...

A discussion then ensued, during which the employers presented their training experiences. Finally, Bilstein handed out certificates and wished those representatives who had given a short presentation on their company all the very best, before expressing his thanks to the Vice President of the chamber.
