Otto Vollmann GmbH & Co. KG, based in Gevelsberg Germany, is
the first industrial company in the region to become a GrünStrom
customer. "Out of responsibility for the
region, and together with my staff, I would like to support renewable
energy ", explains Managing Director Axel Vollmann.
The GrünStrom tariff will apply to the office
building at the Rosendahl site (consumption approx. 50,000 kilowatt
hours per annum - this corresponds to approx. 15 households). The
GrünStrom revenue will be used to support facilities in the
region which produce electricity from renewable energy sources.
Vollmann, Vice President of the SIHK (Südwestfälische
Industrie- und Handelskammer zu Hagen) and Deputy Chairman of the
development association EN-Agentur (Wirtschaftsförderungsagentur
Ennepe-Ruhr GmbH), regards his decision not only as a trigger for
other companies in the Ennepe-Ruhr region. "Energy
use must be cost-effective for manufacturing companies. For the
entrepreneur, this represents a balance between rising costs on
the one hand, which consequently become a locational factor, and
the commitment to this location and the region on the other. We
need to take into account future generations and their energy requirements",
states Vollmann. Both these issues are able to be addressed with
AVU.
AVU Sales Director Winfried Hoppmann is of the same
opinion: together with his customer advisors, he would also like
to approach other industrial companies or service providers who
wish to support the AVU GrünStrom concept and therefore the region.
"The TÜV certificate emphasises the fact that companies are
environmentally orientated and innovative", explained Hoppmann,
highlighting a further advantage that the companies could use in
their marketing.
The success of the conclusion of this contract is
in keeping with the reorientation of the GrünStrom offering since
1st June. AVU has already been offering GrünStrom for more than
five years. Now the company is able to offer a deal which is totally
competitive - with its own contract and a new price structure. Those
opting for GrünStrom pay an energy rate inclusive of the support
contribution (a total of 18.8 cents gross per kilowatt hour) and
a lower basic price (7 euro per month). "This price structure has
been designed precisely for those users who are both environmentally-conscious
and price-conscious", says Winfried Hoppmann.
Working together with the GrünStrom customers is
a very important task for the energy suppliers: they are invited
by AVU to meet once a year and decide on how the revenue from the
previous year will be used. A total amount exceeding 120,000 euro
is to be invested in new facilities.
Consumption by GrünStrom customers in 2005,
including in addition to AVU itself, also the town halls of Gevelsberg
and Ennepetal, amongst others : 1,893,087 kilowatt hours.
